Welcome to the home page for the 2001 ETD Standards meeting to be held at OCLC!

Spearheaded by Professor Edward A. Fox of the Virginia Tech Department of Computer Science, this event is a sequel to a series of meetings discussing standards related to electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs), including Dublin Core 7 a year ago in Frankfurt, a meeting last May in Berlin, and a brief discussion at the European Conference on Research and Advanced Technology for Digital Libraries earlier this year in Lisbon (ECDL 2000, Sept 18-20 2000).

Goals for this meeting are to finish up the metadata standard for ETDs so it can be used in connection with the Open Archives Initiative, and to make progress on other standards such as Document Type Descriptions (DTDs) for XML. The timing is important so that resolutions may be included in a guide being prepared for UNESCO to help disseminate about ETDs.

Attendees must make their own travel and lodging arrangements, and cover their own expenses. There is no funding from the NDLTD or OCLC for this meeting.

The OCLC campus is located in Dublin, Ohio, a suburban community near Columbus, Ohio USA.
